Neo-Western 'Halfway To Amarillo' Acquired By Gravitas Ventures

With the blockbuster season winding down in the coming weeks, the focus shifts toward new releases in the off-peak months of the cinema year.
Slated for distribution in November is Halfway to Amarillo, a comedy written and directed by Burt Binder. The film is his directing debut after previously appearing as an actor in the documentary series Comedy Store and the drama Stolen Season (both in 2020).

Halfway to Amarillo tells the story of Michael Coleman (played by Binder), an author stuck in writer's block while trying to finish his second novel, a Western. As if this isn't already bad enough, the two main characters of his book, the outlaw Eli West (played by Luke Jones) and the mean sheriff Morgan Ambrose (played by Peter Giles) suddenly jump out of the pages of the novel and start to run amok through Los Angeles, forcing Coleman to readjust his priorities.
Produced by Mike Binder, Burt's father, Halfway to Amarillo was awarded “Best Independent Feature” at the 2023 IFS Los Angeles Film Festival.
The film's distributor, Gravitas Ventures, was founded in 2006 in Los Angeles and has its headquarters now in Cleveland, Ohio. It specializes in independent films and documentaries for release in cinemas and streaming platforms. Besides Halfway to Amarillo, it has recently acquired the horror-comedy Slotherhouse and Megan Griffiths' drama I'll Show You Mine.
Halfway to Amarillo will probably not make a big impression at the overall box office, but with an estimated production budget of only $60,000, it is likely to not only break even but also make quite some profit, an achievement that not all high-profile blockbusters of recent months can claim for themselves.
