'Napoleon' Trailer Shows Ambitious Teamwork Between Joaquin Phoenix And Ridley Scott
Joaquin Phoenix and Ridley Scott are reuniting for Scott’s new biographical epic film, Napoleon. In a trailer released this week, Phoenix transforms into the merciless yet strategic French Commander Napoleon Bonaparte. Scott directed Phoenix in the 2000 blockbuster Gladiator.
Hello, World!
Based on the life of the French Emperor’s origins and rise to power, Scott once again teams up with All the Money In The World screenwriter David Scarpa. The trailer seamlessly blends battle scenes with clips of the titular character’s passionate yet explosive marriage. A voiceover from Napoleon states, “I am destined for greatness.” There is also a clip of Napoleon declaring himself emperor while placing a crown atop a laurel wreath. It gives a slight callback to Phoenix’s character Commodus in Gladiator.
