In recent years, due to the live-action Godzilla films, Kaiju have become a staple of popular culture. It was announced at New York Comic Con by IDW Publishing that Mothra will be receiving a new look in the new series Mothra: Queen of the Monsters. This new look, which will be revealed in the series, is a significant evolution for the iconic character. The series will run for five issues and will be written by Sophia Campbell and drawn by artist Matt Frank.

The series, set to release on March 5th, 2025, introduces time-traveling twins who work to prevent a bleak future by training a Mothra larva in combat. Frank confirmed via social media that this new take on Mothra, called Mothra Gemini, brings a unique and intriguing spin to the iconic character—fierce and powerful yet undeniably cute.

Mira is a young woman living in the wasteland who believes she lost her entire family in Mothra’s final stand. That is until her missing twin shows up at her door with two fairies! If her sister is to be believed, Mira might hold the key to the rebirth of Mothra and the Earth’s return to normalcy.
