Microsoft Documents Reveal That 'Elder Scrolls VI' Won't Release On PS5
An unsealed document was released by Axios reporter Stephen Totilo on his X account, revealing The Elder Scroll 6 will not be released on PlayStation 5. After Microsoft’s $7.5 billion buyout of Bethesda in 2021, fans wondered what platform the game would land on. According to the document, The Elder Scrolls 6 will only launch on Xbox and PC. A release date is not listed, but a release date is “expected 2026 or later. Microsoft has not made a formal announcement.
Microsoft’s statement on exclusivity listed on the document is taken from a quote by Xbox CEO Phil Spencer when he spoke with GQ in 2021: “In order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scroll 6.”

Many Bethesda games are skipping over the PlayStation 5 platform entirely. Starfield was released on PC and Xbox along with Arkane’s Redfall. And it is rumored that MachineGame’s newest Indiana Jones game will also be exclusive to PC and Xbox. With a new generation console releasing in the future, the Xbox Series X and S will be six years old by the end of 2026, The Elder Scroll 6 may miss this generation entirely.
However, much is still left undecided as Pete Hines, Bethesda's head of publishing, said last month to IGN that the game was still in “early development” and fans should plan to hear anything new for the new future.
