Michael Kopsa, 'X-Files' And 'Stargate SG-1' Alum, Passed Away At Age 66

Michael Kopsa, known for playing General Kerrigan on Stargate SG-1, Rick Culver on The X-Files, and Char Aznable in the English dub of Mobile Suit Gundam, passed away due to complications from a brain tumor. His former wife, Lucia Fragione, announced his death on Twitter.

Michael Kopsa was born in Toronto on January 22nd, 1956. He studied acting at the Circle in Square Theater School in New York for four years until 1984. He would then return to Canada to get an Arts and Science degree from the University of Toronto. His movie debut came in 1986 with the film Timing, which lead to roles in television, including T and T, Tropical Heat, and Falcon Beach.

After moving to Vancouver in 1994, Kopsa became a staple of genre television filmed there. These include Rick Culver in The X-Files, General Kerrigan in Stargate SG-1, Dead Zone, and Captain Windmark in Fringe. He was also a prominent voice actor with roles in original animation and anime dubbing, including Char Aznable in Mobile Suit Gundam, Yakon in the Ocean Dub of Dragon Ball Z, Commander Volcott O’Huey in Galaxy Angel, Beast in X-Men Evolution, and Samukai in Ninjago. 

He is survived by his former wife, Lucia Frangione, and their child, Nora.
