Krafton Saves ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ IP & Tango Gameworks From Shutdown
It’s been a volatile year in the video game industry. 2023 ended with an incredible tally of job losses from studios slashing budgets and production. That trend continued into the new year, and even lately, with notably few good news stories.
One of the stories making up the deluge of bad news was the shocking closing of Tango Gameworks. This was announced back in May when Xbox announced the closing of several Bethesda studios, which included Tango Gameworks. Tango Gameworks, if you’re unaware, was responsible for one of the biggest breakout games of 2023: Hi-Fi Rush.
Now, that can join the list of good news for the industry, as it was announced over the weekend that Tango Gameworks has been acquired by another studio. That studio would be Krafton, the same studio behind PUBG.

Per the release that Krafton released, they stated: “As part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects.” This could imply that the people whose jobs were at risk will now have nothing to worry about.
Krafton continues to talk about the other IPs that they purchased along with the acquisition, including The Evil Within, its sequel, and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
It's a small victory for an industry beset by trouble lately, but it’s a good sign that it’s not always the end for a studio and its work when the grips of capitalism squeeze.
