Kevin O'Neill, Co-Creator Of 'The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen' Passes Away At Age 69

British comic illustrator Kevin O'Neill passed away last week after battling an undisclosed illness at the age of 69.  O’Neill was a popular British comic artist, best known for his work on Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and the following spinoff pieces.  From comics to novelization, the man had a successful hand in quite a few projects during his time.

O’Neill was born in 1953, breaking into the art scene early on at age 16. He bounced a bit with Disney as a colorist and gained cover art, editing, and editing experience through the 2000 AD project. He truly broke into the comic scene with notoriety in 1986 through Alan Moore’s Tygers arc of Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual No. 2. The art style was deemed objectionable and was published anyways, finding success and cementing the man’s style.

With DC, O’Neill has credits as an inker, penciler, colorist, artist, and cover artist.  He continued to work with Moore on the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen title from 1999 to 2019.  Other credits include Marshal Law as an artist and cover artist, World’s Funniest as an artist, and several other titles.

Some of his final pieces to be published include work with Pat Mills for the novel Serial Killer and a collaboration with Garth Ennis for Kids Rule OK! Battle Action Special.  His work will continue to inspire generations of artists.

We extend our deepest condolences to O’Neill’s family, friends, coworkers, and fans.  O’Neill’s legacy will continue to echo in the comic scene for years to come.
