Jeff Magers, Design Director For 'Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,' Talks Changes To Rewards And Fast Travel
With the release of the long-awaited Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (hopefully) just over a month away, Designer Jeff Magers has been doing the rounds, discussing some of the new gameplay additions to the second instalment of the popular series.
Cal Kestis will be fighting his way through the galaxy, which includes a new planet called Koboh. He’ll be using new methods of traverse (including slowing your fall by stabbing the lightsabre into a wall, which looks very cool) and a new fast travel system, based on meditation points and will work similarly to franchises like Dark Souls. The inclusion of fast travel, which wasn’t available for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, suggests a bigger, freer world map, rather than the network of hubs and paths we were used to in the previous game. For the first time, Cal has a bunch of new animals to ride, some of which even fly. Fans asked for both features, and it looks like Respawn Entertainment listened.

The gameplay will be much improved by additional force moves and abilities, which is something that fans and reviewers also noted was sorely lacking. It might be as close to imitating a Jedi as developers have come. Respawn Entertainment has given us plenty of Clone Wars hints so expect to be using those new powers on droids as well as Stormtroopers.
In his interview with IGN, Jeff Magers hints that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will have side quests and explorable areas away from the main storyline with high-value rewards, including upgrades and new skills. Because Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is going to have a greater amount of customization than the previous games, it’s likely these types of items will feature prominently in the additional bonuses. It looks as if it will be worth taking some time to get to know Koboh.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor will be released on 28th April 2023 for PS5, Xbox X/S and PC (Windows).
