Adapting a video game to live-action is always challenging. Shows and movies have tried with varying levels of success over the years. Films like Sonic the Hedgehog and the recent HBO series, The Last of US have surprised and blown fans’ way. While other movies, like Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and series like Halo have fell flat and left fans severely underwhelmed. The recent Pedro Pascal hit has reminded fans that reworking a beloved series is never as successful as just remaking what has already worked. Star Wars has a few video games that would make for amazing live content, but only one should (and could) be made into a series for Disney+.

Star Wars has a rich video game history. There was the legendary Star Wars: Dark Forces from the 1990s, the epic Jango Fett bounty hunter game from the 2000s, and the successful Lego Star Wars series. While other games like Battlefront 2 and The Force Unleashed would be fun to see on the big screen, Disney would be remiss if they didn’t consider making a live adaptation of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. The game itself is incredible, and the story of Cal Kestis is one of the best in the franchise.

Fallen Order follows the story of Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan) as he rediscovers his path and travels the galaxy with the Mantis crew. A Padawan during Order 66, Cal watched as his master, Jaro Tapal, was slain protecting him. Cal went into hiding for years after that and worked in a salvage yard on Bracca. While scrapping an old Jedi starfighter, he saves his friend Prauf’s life using the Force but is spotted by an Imperial probe droid. Shortly after, Cal and his friend are rounded up by stormtroopers and then questioned by Inquisitors. There he meets the devious Second Sister (Trilla Suduri) and helplessly watches as his friend is killed and he is forced to go on the run (again). It seemed hopeless for Cal, but a ship came out of nowhere at the last moment and saved him.

On the ship, Cal meets Greez and Cere Junda, who informs him, they are on a quest to rebuild the Jedi order. Cal is cautious at first but joins them on their mission. The trio traveled to the planet Bogano, where Cal befriends a droid named BD-1 that leads him to a hidden vault. There he unlocks a message from the Jedi Master Eno Cordova that explains that he has stored several encrypted messages in the droid and that they can only be opened by retracing the journey that Cordova himself once went on. He also hid a Holocron with the names (and locations) of the Force-sensitive children that can only be opened after the journey is completed. Eno hoped that the Jedi who went on the same path would understand the importance of his mission.

Cal finds purpose in knowing that the fate of the Jedi order lies in his hands and sets off to find the temple of the three sages with BD-1. His travels take him to Dathomir, Kashyyyk, and the planet Zeffo. The overall journey begins to repair Cal’s connection to the Force. The journey also helps him let go of the guilt he felt because he was unable to save his master, and he fulfills Eno’s request to better understand the Force the way the ancient civilization the Zeffo did. Cal discovers it is ok to start again after you lose everything and completes his quest, but towards the end is tricked by Trilla and loses the Holocron to the Empire. Cal, desperate to stop Empire from reaching the children, travels to the Fortress Inquisitorius and fights Trilla for the third and final time. Finally, he and Cere retrieve the list and convinces Trilla she is being used, but at the last moment, Darth Vader comes out and gives us one of the most chilling moments in Star Wars history.

The game’s story is layered with Easter eggs and non-stop action and features a slew of memorable characters. We meet a Nightsister from Dathomir (Merrin) who goes from enemy to friend, Saw Gerrera, a former Jedi (Taron Malicos) who survived Order 66 and fell to the dark side, and a towering Dowutin Inquisitor hell-bent on causing Cal pain. The dynamic between Trilla and Cal would be incredible to see on screen. The scene where he learns that she is Cere’s former student would be an epic cliffhanger to the story’s first half, and the ending would show a Vader we haven’t seen since the last moments of Rogue One. The game is also the first time we get an in-depth look at the planets Kashyyyk and Dathomir, and if properly adapted to live-action would rival even the majesty of Pandora from the Avatar movies.
