James Gunn Says That His New ‘Superman’ Movie Will Have A Different Vibe From His ‘Guardians’ Films
To an extent, James Gunn is very forthcoming on the direction he wants his DC Universe to begin. Recently, Gunn confirmed that the script for Superman: Legacy is complete, and the executive is compiling a casting list and audition materials.
This is alongside his latest press tour to promote his last film with Marvel Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. However, as for the tone of the upcoming Superman film, Gunn says the tone will be much different than his films with Marvel.

Gunn says he learned a lot about filmmaking during his time with Marvel, “But it’s not like Superman is going to have exactly the same vibe as a Guardians movie. It’s actually quite different.” This leaves many excited to discover what Gunn has in store, with the narrative focus being on a younger version of Superman.
After the press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 is complete, Gunn will move to DC Studios full-time alongside Peter Safran. However, Gunn does not sound sad to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the post-blip era.
“I think it’s really hard in the wake of the Blip. There’s this worldwide, universe-wide event that happened. And in truth, everybody would be stark raving mad at this point. So it’s hard to write stories in the wake of that. Which is why the Guardians movies have been easier because they’re set outside of that a little bit.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 debuts in theatres on May 5, and Superman: Legacy is slated for a release on July 11, 2025.
