James Gunn Announces 'Superman: Legacy' Has Started Early Production, Shooting To Start In 2024

James Gunn has recently given an update on Superman: Legacy, the first silver screen installment to the DCEU’s reboot.  The writer and director shared a picture of the cover page for the script in honor of the 85th anniversary of Superman’s first comic appearance. 

He also confirmed that “costumes, production design, and more now up and running.”  In a reply to the thread, Gunn confirmed that the whole script is done as well. With this progress, a physical production kick-off in 2024 is probable according to Deadline.

The current official description of the film, according to IMDb, states: “It follows Superman as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned.”  Not much else is known about the film at this point in time.

This film is the first movie entry for Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.  It will be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the Tom King run by the same name and a Batman installation for this canon.  The Brave and The Bold will feature Damian Wayne, telling a father-son story based on Grant Morrison’s run.

Superman: Legacy is aiming to hit theatres on July 11, 2025, several months before the DCEU side-earth continues with Matt Reeve’s The Batman II in the following October.  They will be separate universes coexisting.
