Independent studio A24 received 18 nominations at the 2023 Academy Awards. Founded just over a decade ago, the latest Oscar nominations are a record for the entertainment company. The 18 nominations are spread across six movies with box office hit Everything Everywhere All at Once leading the charge with 11 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay.

The surrealist comedy starring Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis was a sleeper hit and also helped revive Quan's acting career decades after he decided to quit acting. Quan is best known for his roles in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Another film distributed by A24 receiving multiple Oscar nods is Darren Aronofsky's The Whale starring Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink. The movie received nominations for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Brendan Fraser has also experienced a resurgence in his acting career recently with The Whale being a highlight. In a twist of fate, Fraser and Ke Huy Quan both acted in the 1992 comedy film Encino Man.

With 18 Academy Award nominations, A24 is only second to Disney in the number of nominations in the running at the 2023 Academy Awards. The TV and movie production and distribution company first burst onto the Oscars scene in 2015 with nominations for the drama Room, sci-fi movie Ex Machina, and the Amy Winehouse documentary Amy. Since then, A24 has received at least one Oscar nomination in all categories each year.
