It seemed like in all the tumult of Warner Bros. over the last nine months, it was inevitable. Now it’s confirmed. DC series Titans and Doom Patrol will be ending after their respective fourth seasons on HBO Max.

Each series ran their now-final seasons’ first halves for ten Thursdays from November to January. Titans first, then Doom Patrol. Their respective returns will be their farewell runs, and both series had enough time to craft proper series finales, mapping out the completion of both story arcs. Titans boss Greg Walker stated, “We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve.” The ends of these series leave Harley Quinn as the lone survivor of the niche DC Universe streaming service that managed to also birth Stargirl and Swamp Thing and stage the return of Young Justice in its short lifespan.

James Gunn, current co-CEO and public face and mouth of DC Studios, responded to the assumption that this was one of his or Peter Safran’s decisions. Alas “The decision to end the series precedes us.” Gunn said, wishing the casts and crews the best. In truth, regardless of who was in charge, building a new unified film and TV universe meant much of what existed before would close down.

Titans features Nightwing (played by Brenton Thwaites), Raven (Teagon Croft), Starfire (Anna Diop), and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), while Doom Patrol features Cliff aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Rita (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), Larry aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer) and Cyborg (Jovian Wade).
