Illumination CEO, Chris Meledandri, Reveals 'Shrek 5' In the Works, Among Other Upcoming Projects
It appears that Eddie Murphy is getting his wish. The actor recently stated that he wanted there to be a fifth Shrek movie, as well as a Donkey spin-off. Chris Meledandri replied to Murphy’s comments saying, “It’s evidence of his strong enthusiasm for a role that he so brilliantly inhabited and really created alongside the artists at DreamWorks. I found that comment to be very exciting.”
Now, Meledandri himself has said that he wants to get the original cast of Shrek back together, including Murphy, Mike Myers, and Cameron Diaz for a fifth movie. Furthermore, when asked if Donkey could support a spin-off, similar to how Puss In Boots does with his two movies, Meledandri responded by saying, “without question.”

Illumination already has plenty of movies announced. It is currently over-seeing the launch of The Super Mario Bros Movie into theatres and also has a bunch of sequels lined up. These include plans to complete the third installments for both The Secret Life of Pets and Sing.
The third film, The Secret Life of Pets involves “One primary character from the first two films, but introduces a new set of characters,” while Sing 3 “Will involve characters from the original cast, but it will take us into a new world.” The film Migration, which releases this fall, and is about a family of ducks is described as “A remarkably human story with characters who are very relatable and end up wrestling with issues that we all understand, even though they are ducks.
And their qualities as ducks are incredibly well executed, from the smallest detail on a feather to their movements and their flight. So it’s a movie that transports you into this world up in the sky, but at the same time it’s very true to who we are.”
As of now, there is no official date set for Shrek 5.
