HBO Max and Warner Bros. have had a tumultuous few months. Earlier this year, they stopped production on Batgirl, and 36 shows were removed from HBO Max this past August. They also laid off more than 150 employees. They even announced that they would be changing the name of the service. It is an open question what the new name will be, but most people say it will just be called “Max.” These moves were all in an attempt by the new CEO to find $3 billion in savings. However, there is finally some good news to report: the shows appearing on the platform in 2023. Some are returning shows, while others are new.

The animated Harley Quinn will return with a new season. In addition, Titans and Doom Patrol are listed as getting new episodes. That likely means the two shows will finish their current seasons in 2023 but not get new ones. This would be in keeping with the entire DC overhaul that Warner is in the middle of.

Some highlights of what else will be on the platform include: Our Flag Means Death season 2. True Detective: Night Country starring Jodi Foster and Kali Reis, will be about two detectives trying to solve the disappearance of six people. Elizabeth Olsen and Patrick Fugit will appear in Love and Death. Steven Soderbergh brings us Full CircleWarrior is coming back for season 3. Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux will star in The Whitehouse Plumbers about the Watergate scandal. The Weeknd will have a show about a pop star called The IdolPerry Mason season 2 will land on March 6th. Based on a videogame, The Last of Us arrives in January. Finally, Mindy Kaling’s Velma, about the Scooby Doo character, is coming on the first of the year.

It is hard to tell what these announcements mean for the streamer in the future. Hopefully, the turmoil is over, and this is the new direction for HBO Max. Only time will tell.
