Zachary Levi Confirms He Will Continue As Shazam In The New DCU
As the fury of the DC Universe bosses continues to reboot and recast established live-action adaptations of its heroes, one actor posted on Twitter a vague glimmer of hope for one character. Zachary Levi attempted to assuage the ire of fans over rumors that he would be replaced as Shazam. The actor is on track to reprise Shazam in the upcoming sequel, Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The Shazam sequel and its lead actor will be part of the rebooted DC film universe, pending studio changes.
Levi's tweet comes among the changing power dynamics at Warner Bros and the impending reboot of DC films. Several vital actors, such as Henry Cavill/Superman, have been replaced amid the shakeup. The Studio also announced that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would not be reprising his role as the anti-hero, Black Adam. Additionally, Warner Bros will not follow up on current movies, set for release, with more sequels. Conversely, the controversial studio head has also stated that some actors are being retained. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will not receive the third installment in the Patty Jenkins-led series; however, the actor has not been removed as the amazon goddess. As new scripts are currently in development, the future of the DCU will remain a mystery until Gunn begins releasing new films. Fans can look forward to the last of the DCEU films in their current iteration when the Shazam Sequel arrives in theaters in 2023.
