HBO Max Is Out, Max Is In: Pricing And Name Change Coming Soon For The Streaming Service

Yet another major change is coming to HBO Max. After seeing a lot of success from The Last of Us, the streaming service is introducing more changes in addition to its lineup.

Previously, during the volatility surrounding the Warner Discovery merger, there was news that the two streaming services may not come together. However, it seems in a few weeks, HBO Max and Discovery+ will form a new streaming service known simply as “Max” with three tiers of membership. The first tier (at the cost of $10 per month), will contain ads. The second tier ($16 per month) will be ad-free. The third tier ($20 per month) will feature additional features, such as increased video quality. Of note, Discovery+ will still exist on its own, and it is unclear how many Discovery+ shows will make their way over to the new service.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav spoke on the upcoming development:

"We're excited about the fact that we're going to take all of the Discovery content and put it together with the HBO Max content in a much better platform. But the key to this company is, as a storytelling company, we have this diversity...We have the ability to pick from all of these different baskets to build really what may be most important for us, which is a successful and profitable streaming business. That HBO Max, whatever we call it on the launch, is a product that we take around the world and that has a real impact on how people consume content. We believe in it because we believe we have the best menu of content, the best portfolio, the best quality. And we're curating now in a way that's having an impact on America."

More details about the combined HBO Max-Discovery+ streaming service will be revealed on April 12th during a big press day event.
