In the season 3 episode “The Pirate,” Captain Carson Tera (played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) comes across a damaged ship that turns out to be the one that was carrying Moff Gideon to his New Republic interrogation. Tera sends a droid to search the ship, but there is no sign of Gideon.

Esposito has been keeping the whereabouts of his character close to his chest. When asked during a guest spot on EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast, he coolly stated, “That’s for me to know and you to find out.” He went on to mention that he rarely receives a script for an episode that he’s not in, so he knows little about how (or when) his character will return.

Esposito also said that he’s “one of those actors who doesn’t really need to know,” and trusts Jon Favreau and the other creators to bring back Moff Gideon precisely when needed to make the biggest impact: “And that’s the real golden egg of great writing is that you tease it, but you also tantalize the audience. And as well as doing that, you strike fear in them. Because the longer you don’t see me, the more pissed off I’m going to be when you do.”

It’s safe to say that when Moff Gideon returns, Din and the rest of the crew will have an uphill battle against their missing foe. Stream The Mandalorian on Disney+.
