'Game Of Thrones' Actor Ian Gelder, Has Passed Away At The Age Of 74
British actor of stage and screen Ian Gelder sadly passed away at the age of 74. Gelder was a constant and reassuring presence on UK television, performing in some of their most loved dramas such as The Bill, Holby City and Eastenders. His expansive fifty-two-year career spanned a number of award-winning shows, like Ripper Street, His Dark Materials and Brass Eye. A passion for the Bard, Gelder starred alongside Jonathan Pryce in his rendition of King Lear, as well as a Globe production of Titus Andronicus. Ian Gelder is probably best known for his role in G.R.R Martin’s epic fantasy saga, Game of Thrones, where he played Kevan Lannister. The elder Lannister was the Hand of the King to Tywin until he was killed by wildfire in the climatic conclusion of season six.

Whovians will feel Gelder’s absence more than most, as the actor played multiple characters, Zellin, the Voice of the Remnant, and Mr Dekker from the popular spin off Torchwood. He also frequently featured on the Doctor Who: Monthly Adventures podcast.
Ian’s husband, fellow actor Ben Daniels (Argyle, The Crown, Rogue One) nursed him through his battle with cancer. He paid his partner this loving tribute on social media:
