If you thought Fortnite couldn’t get any bigger, you’re wrong. Fortnite OG, where the original map returned, saw almost 45 million players online in a single day. This included at one point, having 6,172,463 players online at the same time, a new record for the game.

The official Fortnite X page showed great excitement for the numbers, posting “Way to start things off with a big bang. We're blown away by the response to #FortniteOG. Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite's history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play.”

Despite the success, Epic Games will be laying off 16% of its workforce, or 830 employees. "For a while now, we've been spending way more money than we earn, investing in the next evolution of Epic and growing Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators," said Tim Sweeny, CEO of Epic Games. "I had long been optimistic that we could power through this transition without layoffs, but in retrospect I see that this was unrealistic.”
