'Doctor Who' Holiday Special Gets Release Date And Title

Doctor Who fans have an extra present to unwrap, or upload, on Christmas Day. In a post on X, Disney Plus shared a list of new holiday releases including Doctor Who Holiday Special: The Church on Ruby Road, which hits the platform on December 25. This holiday special marks the first official appearance of Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth doctor. Some fans are judging from the title that the special will also feature the doctor’s companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. After the holiday special, new Doctor Who episodes will stream on Disney Plus and the BBC in the UK and Ireland.
The Christmas special is a return to tradition for the sci-fi series. The last Christmas special was “Twice Upon A Time” in 2017. After Jodie Whittaker took the reins from Chris Chibnall, the series shifted to specials on New Year’s Day. Unlike Christmas, the New Year's episodes didn’t focus on the holiday. In addition to the holiday special, three anniversary episodes starring David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Neil Patrick Harris, and Yasmin Finney will debut in late 2023. Sci-fi fans can enjoy an extra holiday treat as the Doctor returns to their TV screens on Christmas Day.
