The Last Ever Beatles Song 'Now And Then' Has Been Released
After what feels like an eternity, the long-awaited final song of the highly influential and popular group The Beatles has been released. “Now and Then” premiered first on BBC Radio 2 on November 2nd at 10 am Eastern alongside dropping on all major streaming services. The song was released as a double A-side with the band’s first hit single, “Love Me Do,” which has been remixed using the same machine-learning technology that Peter Jackson used to extract the late John Lennon’s voice from the “ropey” cassette containing the unfinished demo of “Now and Then.”
The next day, on November 3rd, a music video for the final song was released. It was directed by Peter Jackson and consists of footage of the at the time three surviving Beatles working on the track back in 1995 alongside clips from various Beatles performances, music videos, home videos, and even Paul and Ringo as they laid down their tracks. Many Beatles fans became rather emotional upon seeing this music video, and there were several intense reactions. The song even debuted at number one, beating Taylor Swift’s Is It Over Now? on Spotify’s streaming rankings.

Jackson has expressed a slight interest in using this technology to create new Beatles songs in a similar manner, but even he thinks it seems rather unlikely, stating:
“We can take a performance from Get Back, separate John and George, and then have Paul and Ringo add a chorus or harmonies…You might end up with a decent song but I haven’t had conversations with Paul about that. It’s fanboy stuff but certainly conceivable.”
“Now and Then” is available to stream on all major platforms and can be bought as a 7” 45, a 12” record, a cassette, and a CD single.
