The first trailer for the second to last installment of the Fast and Furious franchise has finally been released. The franchise is going back to its roots in this extremely action-packed feature. Fans will recognize many familiar faces as well as new ones.

Like any good trailer, the clip begins with a voiceover. Rita Moreno tells the crew about how “the road has been very hard,” but they have built a magnificent family. The family has been been a central theme in these movies, whether it be blood or found family. Our villain, played by Jason Momoa, then joins in with his thoughts as the camera cuts back to the bank heist in Fast Five with clips of Paul Walker. It appears the villain had some ties to the crime boss they robbed in that film.

Explosions, fights, and destruction dominate the trailer. However, one of the best parts is how the franchise is going back to its roots of car races as Dom “races to stop the bloodbath against Jason Momoa’s character. This is great to see when this franchise has come so far and is anything but that.

Fast X promises to be more intense than the films that came before it. The stakes are also much higher. Things get personal as the trailer brings up the possibility of death in Dom’s family. Obviously, we won’t know who it will be until the movie releases. It will be interesting to see how the story ends and leads into the final installment.

Fast X releases in theaters on May 19th, 2023.
