Jason Momoa Has Been Officially Cast In James Gunn's DCU
One of the DCEU’s most notable actors is joining the newly rebooted DC film universe in a major role.
Jason Momoa, best known for his turn as Aquaman and also set to appear in A Minecraft Movie later in 2025, has been approached to play the DC antihero Lobo for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Momoa has long expressed an interest in playing the role of Lobo, and as part of the confirmation of his role, posted an excerpt from a past interview where he expressed that interest as well as excitement for the character.
A powerful alien in the DC universe with incredible strength and regenerative abilities alongside great resilience to many threats, Lobo often takes the role of a bounty hunter and tends to clash with DC’s heroes as a result of chasing his targets. Lobo’s appearances in animation have been frequent, from the DCAU’s Superman: The Animated Series and both incarnations of the Justice League cartoon to a brief role in Young Justice’s second season. However, this casting announcement marks Lobo’s first appearance in a live-action film.
Momoa joins Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Eve Ridley, who are set to play Supergirl, Krem of the Yellow Hill, and Ruthye Mary Knolle, respectively. The film is based on the 2022 comic run of the same name. It has no release date, though it begins production on January 13th, 2025.
