Edie Falco, who plays General Ardmore in Avatar 2: The Way of Water, recently revealed to The View that she lost track of the movie’s release date after she had filmed her cameo four years ago and thought the movie flopped.

The actress, who has recently been quite busy playing Carmela Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark and Pete Davidson’s mother in Bupkis, hadn’t had the time to watch the film following its release.

“The second ‘Avatar,’ the one that’s coming out, I think I shot four years ago,” said Falco. “And then I’ve been busy and doing stuff, and somebody mentioned ‘Avatar,’ and I thought, ‘Oh, I guess it came out and didn’t do very well,’ because I didn’t hear anything.”

In the movie, Falco plays Frances Ardmore, the Resources Development Administration’s SecOps general, whose mission is to tame Pandora and pacify the Na’vi to give humanity a new home. Even though the actress seemed to have landed a badass role, she was disappointed that she didn’t get to play one of the Na’vi blue characters.

“Well, I wanted to be blue. I was excited — I was going to be blue and very tall…I didn’t get either of those things.”

Her lack of awareness is understandable, considering how long she had to wait to see her long-ago filmed project be released. The production of these Avatar movies is a long process that includes research, writing, tech development, and world-building in post-production. So it’s not for nothing that there is a 13 years gap between the release of the first movie and this one.

Speaking to IndieWire, director James Cameron revealed why it took so long to make this movie.

“That same period of time was also for R&D and tech [development] to really future-proof ourselves across that whole oeuvre of films because I’d rather stop once for a big chunk and get it all ready,” said Cameron. “We could probably write a book about how we figured all this stuff out, but the key to it is having a vision of what you want it to look like….Trust me, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”

Avatar 2: The Way of Water was released on December 16 and is still available in movie theaters.
