Dwayne Johnson's 'Black Adam' Has Been Given A Release Date For HBO Max
Black Adam was one of DC’s tentpole releases for 2022, but despite a $200 million budget and the superstar casting of Dwayne Johnson, the movie made a modest $385 million at the box office. That total is far less than what Warner Bros. was hoping for.
Just two months after its Oct. 21 release in theatres, Warner Bros. hopes to bring more viewers to watch the movie as the studio plans to release Black Adam on HBO Max to stream on Dec. 16. The movie is already available through video-on-demand on streaming services like Amazon, Vudu, and Apple TV. Black Adam was released digitally in November.

Though some DC movies have made plenty of money over the years, reviews have been inconsistent, as has the state of the DCEU. Warner Bros. may have made some moves to stabilize the state of flux. Those moves started with the hiring of James Gunn to be one of the new heads of the studio. He hasn’t been shy about making bold moves in his short time with Warner Bros. Gunn has recently taken to Twitter to reassure fans that there will be a transition period, which has included the cancellation of Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman 3.
For now, at least the DC movies Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are all still slated for 2023 releases for the time being.
