Dwayne Johnson Passed On A Cameo In 'Shazam: Fury Of The Gods' As Black Adam
Ever since Zachary Levi was cast as Shazam, fans have been speculating when he would share the screen with Dwayne Johnson who had been cast as Black Adam a few years prior. In the comics, Black Adam flip-flops back and forth between anti-villain depending on the story and is best known for being the archrival/nemesis to Shazam. It seems that we almost had a glimpse of this as soon as early next year with the release of Shazam: Fury of the Gods (FOTG).
According to The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, Johnson was offered a cameo in FOTG but ultimately turned it down. There has been no mention of the reasoning for the Black Adam actor declining to appear which lends some credibility to rumors that Johnson didn’t enjoy Shazam. Black Adam was released in the US on October 21st, 2022, and received mixed reviews from both fans and critics, while also failing to live up to box office expectations.
With all the shakeups that have been going on at Warner Brothers, it will be interesting to see if this has an effect on Johnson’s take on Black Adam moving forward. Hopefully, we will get to see Levi and Johnson share the screen in their respective roles to finally see the long-awaited showdown. Shazam: Fury of the Gods has a release date set for March 17, 2023, and Black Adam is available for digital rental or purchase, as well as some streaming services.
