‘Dune: Part 2' Will Skip San Diego Comic-Con Due To Actor Strike
San Diego Comic-Con starts later this week, and it’s already been beset by several changes from years before, pandemic notwithstanding. Big names that have often been the feature of the massive convention will be noticeably absent this year, like Marvel, DC, Lucasfilm, and several others. Now, with SAG-AFTRA joining the WGA on strike, it throws another change into the mix.
Word has come down that Legendary, the studio behind the modern Monsterverse movies and Dune will be pulling those presentations from Hall H at the convention. There was supposed to be a big presentation about the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the classic science-fiction novel, which is due out on November 3. When the actor strike was announced, Legendary quickly announced that they would not be going forward with their Hall H show.

In the new landscape of Hollywood with streaming such a central part of things, it’s anyone’s guess as to how long this will last, and what things will look like after the dust settles. Part of the rules SAG-AFTRA has set forth for its members includes no promotion of upcoming movies, which would include actors like Timothée Chalamet or Zendaya promoting Dune: Part II.
Part two promises to be a more explosive and action-packed follow-up to 2021’s HBO Max debut, and according to reports, Villeneuve wants to take it one film further and adapt Dune: Messiah to make it a trilogy. The length of the strike, however, is likely to delay or push back all such ambitions.
