Steven Spielberg Thinks That Hollywood Could Implode And George Lucas Agrees
As if the recent strikes weren’t paving the way for a huge change when it comes to the creators and actors, Hollywood is in for an incoming change that could alter the industry forever.
Not long before the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) joined the Writers Guild of America in a strike, iconic filmmakers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas spoke about incoming changes in Hollywood at the University of California School of Cinematic Arts. Spielberg shared the belief that due to the high-budget movies costing over $200 million, that Hollywood is in for a rude awakening and will implode if these types of films flop.

The filmmakers spoke about how difficult it is becoming to get movies into theaters as studios are less willing to take chances, and they also offered insight into the potential future of going to the theater when it comes to cost.
Spielberg offered what could be a look into the future of theater-going with this quote:
“...you’re gonna have to pay $25 for the next Iron Man, you’re probably only going to have to pay $7 to see Lincoln.”
An interesting idea was touched upon beforehand by AMC theaters back in 2022 according to when The Batman was released. According to CNBC and CEO Adam Aaron, it was a test run to try to up the price of the film, but AMC didn’t stop there. Earlier this year according to the New York Post the theater chain was reportedly looking to try out a new pricing model based upon specific seats, charging more for better seats like a sporting event.
Between the SAG and WGA strikes happening at the moment as well as a 200 million dollar film like The Flash becoming a catastrophic flop at the box office, Spielberg may be spot on when he says Hollywood is on the brink of implosion.
