The video game industry has experienced one of its best years in recent memory, and one of its worst. Some of the best-rated games in decades have been released one after the other, and the list for Game of the Year at the Game Awards is a stacked list.

Unfortunately, this stellar year is also marred by the fact that there seems to be a constant stream of news of layoffs after layoffs at major studios. With so many developers losing their jobs, a ray of sunshine comes out of Japan.

Developer Atlus has announced that in April 2024, they will be raising their employees salaries by 15%, in addition to that, they will be giving performance bonuses based on profitability from global sales. The company claimed it’s decision was due to the success of the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei franchises, and they wanted to make the working environment comfortable for their employees. These increases come on the heels of a 20% increase this year alone.

Atlus has been around for decades, having developed games since the late 1980s for the Nintendo Entertainment System. One of their best-selling series, however, is the Persona franchise, which just saw the release of their latest game, Persona 5 Tactica. In February, they’ll be releasing a remake of Persona 3 called Reloaded.

In a year of tenuous employment in the game industry, it’s welcome news for developers looking for some sort of stability.
