'Deadpool & Wolverine' Becomes Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie Of All Time
The Deadpool movies have been successes, to put it lightly. The first film hit the second highest-grossing R-Rated movie of all time, just behind Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. As Deadpool notes, “We beat them overseas, where there’s no such thing as religion.”
Then came the juggernaut that was Joker. While the critics were mixed on it, it was a success by every other measure. It won two Oscars (Best Actor and Best Score) and was nominated for nine other awards, including Best Picture. It was the first R-Rated movie to gross over a billion dollars at the box office. Considering it had a 55 million dollar budget, we’re going to go ahead and say that it made a few dollars.
However, no record is truly safe, outside of maybe Brett Favre’s interception record, and this year, Joker was dethroned.
It’s been no secret that Disney has struggled a bit with its movies, to put it lightly. People are tired of live-action remakes, Lightyear was a historic bomb, and the Star Wars projects aren’t getting much attention… basically, it’s not been going well. Now, though, Disney has the two mega hits that it desperately needed. Inside Out 2 is already the highest-grossing animated film of all time, and now that Deadpool & Wolverine has hit theaters, they’ve hit another milestone. Deadpool & Wolverine is now the highest-grossing R-Rated film of all time.

However, it’s going to be interesting to see round two when Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters on October 4th, 2024.
