What's Next For Jaime Reyes And The DCU? 'Blue Beetle' Post-Credits Scenes Explained
Blue Beetle has hit theaters and, as usual with these types of movies, fans were eagerly anticipating the post-credits scenes. Blue Beetle did not disappoint. It has two post-credit scenes. One hints at what might be to come for Jaime Reyes. The other pays tribute to a Mexican superhero legend.
Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, was not the first hero to don the scarab and become the Blue Beetle. Before Reyes, there was Dan Garrett. Garrett took Ted Kord, a brilliant scientist and inventor, under his wing. Although the scarab never bonded with him, Kord became the Blue Beetle when Garrett died. It was Kord who built the lair used by Reyes in the film. After Kord’s wife died, he disappeared.

This brings us to the first post-credits scene. The scene shows the Blue Beetle’s headquarters where a computer turns on by itself. Out of the computer comes Ted Kord’s voice. He asks for someone to tell his daughter that he’s still alive. That’s not a lot to go on, but it opens possibilities. Might Reyes try to find Kord? Will Kord join the DCU? Could there be two Blue Beetles in the future?
The second end-credits scene is an animated short in Spanish. It features El Chapulín Colorado. El Chapulín Colorado was a long-running comedy series in Mexico in the 1970s. The titular character is “more agile than a turtle, stronger than a mouse, nobler than a lettuce.” While it is unlikely that El Chapulín Colorado will join the DCU, it is nice to see the TV show El Chapulín Colorado become part of DC’s canon.
The DCU is in a state of flux right now, but James Gunn and Peter Safran’s vision may be coming into focus. Blue Beetle could be a good foundation for whatever is to come.
