Dan Harmon Directed 'Strange Planet' Gets A Premier Date On AppleTV+
AppleTV+’s second animated series Strange Planet debuts on Wednesday, August 9. The 10-episode series is based on Nathan Pyle’s webcomic and best-selling graphic novel of the same name. The series will be executive produced by infamous Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon. This new series will be Harmon’s fourth animated series in his career with the hugely successful Adult Swim cult hit Rick and Morty, the upcoming Fox network series Krapopolis and Little Demon, which FXX just recently ordered.
Pyle created the webcomic in 2019 and gained a tremendous following on Instagram, leading to a subsequent book in November 2019. A sequel was released in 2020. The story follows a planet of blue aliens with man similarities to humans on Earth, wanting to learn more about the complexities of humanity and how to go about their everyday lives. Aliens on the show sunbathe and sneeze; however, these activities are described as ‘sun damage’ and ‘face fluid explosions.’
The series cast includes Tunde Adebimpe from Rachel Getting Married fame, Demi Adejuyigbe from The Amber Ruffin Show, and Danny Pudi from Community. The show has a team of executive producers like Alex Bulkley from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Corey Campodonico from BoJack Horseman, Steve Levy from Rick and Morty and Community, and Taylor Alexy Pyle.
