With the release date for the highly anticipated RPG Final Fantasy XVI rapidly approaching, a special preview event occurred. During this event, fans were able to get a better idea of what was to come. The following includes some highlights from this event.

Developed by Square Enix, FFXVI takes a more mature approach to the franchise. The violence and subsequent blood are taken to a new level in the game compared to the past. Choice language is also a bit prevalent in the characters’ dialog. All in all, the audience for it leans towards an older one. Despite these changes, it has been reported that the game still feels like a Final Fantasy installment.

As it has a focus on combat, the functionality of such is important for the game’s overall quality. The content isn’t just excessive blood and gore with nothing else, there is substance to the actions. According to Polygon, the combat is “free-flowing…with interesting mechanics, clever staging, and a satisfying rhythm.”

The scale of the map was inherently going to be large, and the game lives up to expectations. The map is detailed, the side quests are abundant; it’s full of activities and gameplay opportunities. From both a visual perspective and a battle perspective, the game is reportedly reminiscent of FFXIII.

Final Fantasy XVI releases on June 22, 2023, and a demo is dropping sometime ahead of this. The game is set in Valisthea, a land with glittering, blessed crystal mountains called Mothercrystals sprinkled through the land. A shaky agreement for peace was made between the six kingdoms that took up residence next to these magic places; that peace is put at risk when a dark force known as the Blight puts the crystals at risk. It will be exclusively available on the PS5 with digital edition and physical copy options. A PC version was originally planned; however, these plans have been reportedly retracted.
