Amazon MGM's 'Voltron' Finds A Lead In Sterling K. Brown
Amazon’s MGM studio is working on a live-action Voltron film inspired by the classic anime and just landed their lead. Hollywood newcomer Sterling K. Brown will play the starring role. Brown recently received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in American Fiction and worked with Simu Liu and Jennifer Lopez in Atlas. Brown was also Tom Holland’s understudy for London’s West End production of Romeo & Juliet. Other additions to the Voltron cast include John Kim and Rita Ora.
Voltron is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who co-wrote the script with Ellen Shanman. While plot details are being kept secret, Thurber reassured the fans, “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to … those iconic elements that you love, that I love.” A report from The Hollywood Reporter indicated Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV as the main inspirations behind the live-action film. Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber, and David Hoberman of Hobie Films will produce the film.
