In an era where it seems as if everything is getting a sequel, a reboot, or a remake, what was originally a self-contained movie in the ’90s will be added to this list of things being turned into a franchise. Twister, the 1996 disaster movie starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, which made $494 million, will be getting a sequel to be released 28 years after the original.

In an Alien-style naming convention, the sequel will be named Twisters and is set to be released on July 19, 2024. It is currently unknown how strong of a connection the film will have to the original, especially with the passing of both Paxton and Hoffman in the years since the original. What is known is that it has been in the works since 2020, and will revisit “A new chapter” from the original.

Lee Isaac Chung, who was the Oscar Nominated director of Minari, will be in charge and Mark L. Smith, who wrote The Revenant will be writing the screenplay. Warner Bros will be co-financing the film. Frank Marshall, who produced movies such as the Indiana Jones, Borne, and  Jurassic World series, will be adding this film to his list.

Further details as to the plot and setting are yet to be released.
