Prime Video Says That Their 'God Of War' Show Will Be True To The Source Material
Reassuring news arrived for gaming fans looking forward to Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of the God of War into a television series. Amazon wants fans not to worry as the plan is to remain true to the source material. Many fans have been disappointed with the creative changes made in other video game adaptations over the last few years. This is especially true given the increase in interest in small and large-screen adaptations to video game storylines in recent years. Amazon officially confirmed last week that they are indeed adapting the popular franchise for a television series.
The PlayStation game centers on a god-like warrior named Kratos. Kratos goes on a killing spree murdering anything and everything he encounters along the way. Recent storylines, however, have perhaps added depth to his character as they have included an aging factor for Kratos as well as given a son to him in the storyline. Vernon Sanders with Amazon Studios said in an interview with Collider that the series will be “incredibly true to the source material” which he says has a “real emotional core.” He went on to state “We know that there’s such a passionate fanbase for God of War,” Sanders told Collider. “But the thing that we’re always looking for is whether there is a real emotional core if there’s a real narrative story, and I think [that’s] part of what makes God of War so special.” Sanders expects that with the emotional truths embedded within the plot along with the complex family ties that viewers who haven’t even played the game are likely to be interested in watching.
