Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the newest installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It follows the story of Basim, who fans were first introduced to in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Fans will play as Basim, in his home of Baghdad, where we will learn more about his past, and how he became the way he was in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The Ubisoft Forward event on Monday revealed more about the game, including a gameplay walkthrough.

The game does seem to have gone back to its original roots We see Basim stealthing above the streets of Baghdad while being chased by guards. He also uses his hidden blade, which was missing in the previous installment, to kill some enemies. The parkour aspect is back, and so are roof guards, which have also been missing from the previous games. The game has those classic Assassin’s Creed vibes that so many fans missed. It seems there is a new way to select missions in this game. Basim will go to a wall, in what seems to be a safehouse, and select one of the papers on the wall, with various missions. This is similar to the map that was used in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The blending-in feature is also back. One familiar feature, that has been in every recent Assassin’s Creed game, is that of a bird, which can scout out your surroundings. According to the trailer, throwing knives and a variety of weapons also seem to have made a comeback. The visuals are also stunning, and the team has done a great job to recreate an older Baghdad. It’s great to see that the upcoming installment will return to its roots and create what looks like a great Assassin’s Creed game.

From what the gameplay walkthrough shows, it's going to be very reminiscent of the early Assassin’s Creed games. It will bring back the hidden blade and a variety of weapons that we could see in the weapon wheel. Stealth will also play a bigger part in this game as well. It will be interesting to finally learn more about Basim, and hopefully find out more of his motives, after the events that occurred in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Mirage releases October 12, 2023, for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
