Pat Sajak Has Announced His Retirement From 'Wheel Of Fortune'
The end of an era is approaching for television in 2024. TV host icon Pat Sajak recently announced that the upcoming 41st season of Wheel of Fortune will be his last as the host. He announced the news on Twitter in the following statement:
"Well, the time has come. I've decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it'll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”
Wheel of Fortune is the longest-running game show in the United States, premiering in 1975. The daytime version did not keep records based on seasons as the nighttime version did. Sajak joined the show in 1981, replacing Chuck Woolery as the host. He went on to host his own namesake show in 1989, stepping back to only host the nighttime edition of Wheel of Fortune. Throughout his time on the show, Sajak has received 19 Daytime Emmy nominations for Best Game Show Host, winning 3 times. He has made several cameo appearances in other popular shows and even has a muppet character inspired by himself. Sajak is also currently credited as the consulting producer of Wheel of Fortune from 2020-2023.
Sajak’s official successor has yet to be announced, though speculation and fan casts have begun to stir. You can watch the show live on your local TV station or stream it through ABC’s website, Hulu, or PlutoTV!
