A Breathtaking New Trailer Released For James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’
The official trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water dropped on November 2, 2022, a little more than a month before the movie premieres on December 16, 2022, in the United States. It reminds the audience of the beautiful planet of Pandora while demonstrating how far visual effects have come since the first movie was released back in 2009.
Viewers are reintroduced to the picturesque world of Pandora with the Na’vi moving gracefully through the water. A female voice speaks of feeling and hearing “her” heartbeat, the heartbeat of the All-Mother Eywa who connects all lives. As the music swells, viewers are reminded of the beauty of the flora and fauna in the forests of Pandora as seen in the first Avatar movie. Woodspirtes flutter to the ground around a Na’vi lying in the pulsating grass. Other Na’vi ride their Mountain Banshees through the air.

There are also lives beneath the surface of Pandora as seen when Jake Sully reaches for a giant six-gilled whale called the Nalutsa. Then, the trailer cuts to Jake Sully and his daughter Kiri sitting with their feet in the water surrounded by bioluminescent sea creatures. He asks her what Eywa’s heartbeat sounds like. She responds, “Mighty.”
The might of Pandora is revealed along with the introduction of new creatures. Unlike in the first Avatar movie, they are more aquatic in nature. Some Na’vi ride the flying skimwings alongside large whale-like creatures called the Tulkun. Others ride on the back of the Ilu (sleek aquatic reptiles with a long neck and flippers reminiscent of Earth’s extinct plesiosaurs) through the water. They arrive at an all-too-familiar scene with many floating rocks and mountains that look like the Hallejuah Mountains from the previous movie.
However, Earth’s Resources Development Administration returns, disrupting the peace of Pandora with its new mechs and fresh avatars. Jake Sully must seek out the oceanic Metkayina clan to combat the threat that will stop at nothing to get the rich resources of the planet. It seems Jake Sully and Neytiri have a difficult fight ahead of them. As fire burns around them, he tells her “I need you to be strong, Strong heart,” harkening back to why she fell in love with him in the first Avatar movie.
Marvel at the wonders of Pandora when Avatar: The Way of Water returns on December 16, 2022.
