With so many games being released across different platforms, it can sometimes be overwhelming to keep track of them all let alone know which ones are worth your time. Thanks to subscriptions like Xbox GamePass and PlayStation Plus (PS Plus), it is easier than ever to try different games without having to pay the $70+ price tag. Today, we are going to take a look at 13 of the best horror games currently available through PS Plus on either the premium or essential options.

13. Goosebumps: The Game

Goosebumps: The Game

This is the only child-friendly game on the list, but I felt it deserved a mention. The classic R. L. Stine children’s book series is brought to life in the game that forces the player to figure out puzzles and clues while on their walk home from school. If time run’s out before you figure out the mystery then you are lost to the monsters!

12. Evil Dead: The Game

The only reason that this game is all the way at number 12 is because it is unfortunately leaving PS Plus on March 7. The survival-style horror game has been a fan favorite since its release last year. It is a multiplayer game that follows the film franchise. It also now has a battle royale-style mode that players can choose to play!

11. Prey

This is one of two sci-fi horror games that made the list! In this game, players must navigate a space shuttle that has been overrun by aliens determined to kill all lifeforms on board. Not only must players defeat the alien enemies, but they must also discover the history of the Talos I and their own past if they have any hope of survival.

10. Back 4 Blood

This is a first-person shooter game by the creators of Left 4 Dead. Players are fighting in a war against zombie-like creatures now referred to as “the ridden.” They are infected with deadly parasites which gives them only one goal: to destroy all of civilization. There are multiple different ways to play including a 4-person co-op story campaign.

9. Friday The 13th

This game is unlike any other offered on the subscription service. Not only is it a tie-in for the classic film series, but it is also almost 100% multiplayer. The survival game can be played by up to 8 players at a time and the players will be split into groups at the beginning of each round. One player will be cast as Jason Voorhees and set loose on the other players.

8. Observation

This is the second sci-fi game on the list, and it is terrifying! It works similarly to a sci-fi thriller where players are focused on discovering why an entire space crew has disappeared. Playing as an AI named SAM, players will explore their surroundings searching for clues and attempting to avoid the horrors lying in wait. This game works similarly to the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise which has been a fan-favorite for years.

7. The Dark Pictures: Little Hope

This is part of The Dark Pictures Anthology and was released in 2020. The game follows a group of college students who are stranded in the terrifying town of Little Hope after their bus crashes. Surrounded by a thick fog and horrifying beings, the group must discover the town’s secrets before they are killed off one by one. This game is horrifying and full of gore, making it a great choice for horror fans.

6. The Quarry

One of the newest games on this list, The Quarry took social media by storm when it was released last summer. The game is set at a summer camp and features a cast of camp counselors and a horrifying family that runs the camp. It plays out more like an interactive thriller than a video game, but it has great graphics and a horrifying story filled with twists and turns. The best thing about this game is that it is close to impossible to discover every clue during your first playthrough making it a great game to play more than once!

5. Until Dawn

This game is one of the most terrifying games I have ever played! Not only does it focus heavily on jump scares, but it also acts as a choose-your-own-adventure story. While your action may not get you killed, it may get one of your 7 friends killed. The story follows a group of friends who are stranded on a mountain retreat and being hunted by their pasts. This is a single-player game which also adds to the overwhelming sense of fear and isolation.

4. Dead By Daylight

While this game has only been out for roughly seven years, it has quickly become a horror phenomenon. This is mostly thanks to its ever-growing list of crossovers such as Halloween, Stranger Things, Silent Hill, Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw, and Scream just to name a few. The gameplay has stayed the same since its 2016 release and features a group of four players pitted against a solo player that controls whatever supernatural or classic horror character they have chosen.

3. Resident Evil: Biohazard

PS Plus has a huge variety of Resident Evil games available to all subscribers regardless of tier for fans to check out, and they are. This is the newest edition to the catalog added at the end of February in the last drop of games. The game acts as a “new beginning” for the horror franchise and features a new “isolation view” for the first-person-only play style. This game is not for the faint of heart as it is one of the most terrifying games currently on the market!

2. The Last Of Us Remastered

The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us has been a fan-favorite since its release, and now thanks to the show and its availability on PS Plus, more fans are discovering the game. This is one of the most challenging games I have ever played, and it turns out that the star of HBO’s adaptation, Pedro Pascal, agrees. The game follows Joel and Ellie as they make their way across the U. S., fighting off infected zombies and other humans along the way. The game is truly terrifying, and there seems to always be more horrors waiting around the corner.

1. The Medium

The Medium

This is a psychological horror game that will stay with players long after they have turned off their consoles. Many fans have compared it to the Silent Hill franchise. The game is easily the best horror game currently available on the subscription service. Players will explore the real and spirit worlds simultaneously in this third-person game.
