Pinocchio made headlines over the past year with the live-action remake released on Disney+ and Guillermo Del Toro’s twisted take on the character. However, the upcoming Bloodborne-inspired video game Lies of P may be the darkest version yet.

Lies of P follows the story of a puppet-mech Pinocchio as he awakes in the fallen city of Krat. The city has been driven mad by bloodlust and Pinocchio’s only clue is a note telling him to find Gepetto. The gameplay takes a cue from Bloodborne by having Pinocchio defeat enemies with sword attacks and mechanical arms with special abilities. As players make their way through the story, they’ll decide, much like the original puppet, when it’s okay to lie.

In May 2021, a story trailer generated interest in the gaming community. Almost two years later, PlayStation released an updated trailer that revealed the game’s release date. The trailer is overlaid with a villainous monologue by a mysterious puppet master who reveals a monstrous creation of strings and cords that he calls Ergo. The villain rants about fools craving power, but what he really wants is praise.

The end of the trailer reveals an August 2023 release date. Lies of P will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, giving interested gamers plenty of access to this dark Pinocchio tale.
