5 Things You Didn’t Know About Ahsoka’s Rosario Dawson
Rosario Dawson has been acting for decades, but many Star Wars fans didn’t discover her until she was cast as the live-action Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 Episode 5 of The Mandalorian and then reprised the role in The Book of Boba Fett. She quickly became a fan favorite as she looked exactly like the beloved animated character. Now that we have finally gotten a trailer and release date for Dawson’s Ahsoka series, fans couldn’t be more excited for the series to drop later this year. While we all await Ahsoka’s first series, let's take a look at five interesting facts about the series’ star!
5. Career Goals
I can’t image Rosario Dawson not being an actress, but she told Us Weekly that she was actually considering a very different career path! She loves learning about our oceans and scuba diving, so her original plan was to become a marine biologist. She was even attending a school in Manhattan where she was studying to pursue this path in college. These plans changed when she was discovered by director Larry Clark while sitting on her stoop, and the rest is history!

4. Comic Book Creator
It isn’t uncommon for celebrities to have other careers outside of their acting, but typically we see them creating skincare products, makeup, clothing, and/or shoes. Dawson chose to go a different path and partnered with writer David Atchison and illustrator Tony Shasteen to create the Occult Crimes Taskforce (O.C.T) comic book series. Dawson not only helped create the series and its story, but she also acts as the model of the main character.
3. Multi-Talented
While many fans know Dawson for her portrayal of Ahsoka Tano, she hit the radar of millennials and Broadway fans in the early 2000s when she starred in the live-action adaptation of Josie and the Pussycats and the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Rent. Both films saw Dawson singing, dancing, and acting which led to her being nominated for and winning multiple awards.
2. Voice of the People
Rosario Dawson is also passionate about politics and philanthropic work. She has been volunteering with the Lower Eastside Girl’s Club for years and is currently on the club’s board of directors. As a body positivity advocate, she took part in the RESPECT! campaign which worked to end domestic violence, and she has been arrested multiple times at protests.
1. Becoming Ahsoka Tano
Most Star Wars fans know who Ahsoka Tano is and how vital she is to the Star Wars galaxy. Originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein, fans were not quiet about who they wanted to see take on this role in live-action. Dawson told Vanity Fair it was fans that got her the job! Someone made a fan art picture of her as Ahsoka and posted it on Twitter to which she replied “Ummm…Yes, please?” This got the attention of Dave Filoni.
Ahsoka is set to hit Disney+ this August!
