Star Wars is known for its characters. They’re essential to the stories that are told, but most of them would not have made it far, if not for their droid companions. Droids play a role in everyday life and do a variety of jobs. Even though they are essential, unfortunately, they are not always treated the best. Star Wars fans are familiar with many droids, but some, of course, are closer to our hearts than others.

7. B2EMO

The newest droid in Star Wars. He was the droid of Maarva Andor and stayed with her until the end of her days. We don’t see him do much in the first season of Andor, but he was a reliable companion. He was able to detect when the Empire was nearby.

6. Chopper

Chopper was one of the craziest droids in the Star Wars universe. The droid was picked up by Hera Syndulla and has been with the Ghost crew ever since. He accompanied them on missions and also acts as a messenger when the crew was split up. He did not always follow the rules, which has gotten him in trouble more than a few times, but at the end of the day, he was always there for the Ghost crew.

5. D-O

Most fans did not meet the little droid until The Rise of Skywalker. He originally belonged to Ochi of Bestoon, who abused him. He worked as a translator droid for Ochi and had to be careful around him. Luckily, he was found by Rey, Finn, and Poe on Pasaana after Ochi was killed. He was able to find a home with the Resistance and a friend in BB-8. Hopefully, the innocent little droid is treated much better now.

4. C-3PO

A protocol droid, who sometimes doesn’t know when to stop talking, C-3PO has been with every generation of the Skywalker family. He was first built by Anakin on Tatooine when he was still a slave. He was fluent in “over six million forms of communication” and would always remind you of the fact. This ability made him very useful to his companions. Rey, Finn, and Poe took him to Babu Frik in The Rise of Skywalker, so they can access a part of his software to read the ancient language of the Sith. He did not always approve of R2’s ideas but would follow him anywhere.

3. BB-8

Poe Dameron’s droid first appeared in The Force Awakens. He helped Rey and Finn while on Jakku, waiting to be reunited with Poe. BB-8 was extremely protective of those he cares about. He was one feisty droid and sometimes flipped people off with the clever use of his blowtorch.

2. BD-1

Cal Kestis wouldn’t have gotten as far as he did without the help of BD-1. Cal met this droid early in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and he was essential on Cal’s journey. Not only did he get Cal into places he normally wouldn’t be able to get into, but he also became a close companion to the Jedi, as he tries to rebuild the Order.

1. R2-D2

This is without a doubt the most iconic droid in all of Star Wars. Like C-3PO, R2-D2 has been with every generation of the Skywalker family. He was loyal to the Skywalker family and had been a companion of both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa. Not only could he get into places he probably shouldn’t be, but he could also handle himself in a fight.

Droids are essential to Star Wars. Every major character has had one or another at some point in their story. Most of them wouldn’t have survived without a droid. No matter what happens, the droids will always be there for you.
