13 ‘Star Wars’ Characters That Have Come Back From The Dead
13. Rey Skywalker
Rey lost her life defeating her grandfather, the Emperor reborn. Ben Solo sacrificed himself to bring her back to life in Star Wars: The Rise of The Skywalker. Rey has not made any more appearances in the franchise, so we’ve no idea what she has done with this momentous gift. Maybe Disney will give us insights in future movies and series.

12. Poe Dameron
In Star Wars: The Force Awakens Poe Dameron crash lands on Jakku. The TIE fighter sinks into the sand, presumably taking Poe with it, but we find out later that he was thrown from the wreckage.
11. IG-11
A bounty hunter droid developed for The Mandalorian; IG-11 is taken out by Djarin when they come to blows in Chapter 1. By Chapter 7 IG-11 has been fixed and reprogrammed, and despite a few disagreements, he eventually becomes Grogu’s nurse. But in true Star Wars style, to be fully redeemed IG-11 has to sacrifice himself for his charge.
10. Admiral Trench
This Clone Wars Naval Commander has survived more close calls than most people have had hot dinners. He escaped the destruction of The Invincible and The Invulnerable, but he was finally killed by a lightsabre through the chest…or was he?
9. Fennec Shand
Okay, this one is a guess. We saw Cad Bane stabbed through the chest with a Gaffi stick at the end of The Book of Boba Fett. But then the camera pans down to Cad Bane’s chest and we see a blinking light on his suit. This could be proof of life, so it’s not impossible we’ll be seeing him back again.
7. Echo - CT-1409
In the third season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Counterattack) Echo appears to die trying to take out a gun turret. The laser shoots the ship behind him and viewers see his helmet rolling on the ground. Four seasons later in A Distant Echo, Rex pulls Echo out of a stasis chamber where he has been held captive in a scene that is one of the most harrowing in the whole franchise. The separatists gave cybernetics and prosthetics to Echo to keep him alive, which he turned against them.
6. Ahsoka Tano
On Mortis, Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka encounter three mystical Force wielders, known only as ‘The Father’, ‘The Son’, and ‘The Daughter’. The dying father struggles to maintain a balance between his children who represent each side of the Force. Ahsoka is corrupted by the darksider Son in the power struggle and is killed in the fight. To bring her back to life, the fatally wounded ‘Daughter’ uses the last of her power to save Ahsoka. These three figures are a key part of Jedi mythology and this encounter has spawned many fan theories about Ahsoka’s links to the Force.
5. Gregor - CC-5576-39
In Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Episode 14), the team rescue Commander Gregor, who survives an explosion during the Battle of Sarrish. Gregor suffers from amnesia as a result of his injuries, but the blow to the head meant that he was able to disobey Order 66 and defect from the Empire several years later.
4. Princess Leia
Who could forget Carrie Fisher’s ‘Mary Poppins’ moment? The ship is hit and she dramatically flies out into the vacuum, by all rights she should be dead and for a second we believe she is. But then her eyes open and she uses the Force to propel herself to safety.
3. Palpatine
Palpatine learned the secret of immortality from his master Darth Plagueis, so when Darth Vader threw him down the reactor shaft in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi it was inevitable that he would return. We discover in the sequel trilogy that Sheev managed to transfer his consciousness to a new clone body. He was defeated by Rey and Ben Solo…but is he dead for good this time?
2. Darth Maul
Darth Maul is a consummate survivor. He was cut in half in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, but that did not stop him. Using his anger to channel the dark side, he managed to crawl into a trash disposal chute and was dumped out on Lotho Minor. He eventually built himself spider-like legs, but after ten years injured and alone, he lost his mind. Unfortunately for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Maul was rescued by his brother and taken to Dathomir, where he was finally restored.
1. Boba Fett
Boba Fett has technically been resurrected twice in the Star Wars Universe. In Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of The Jedi Fett famously fell into the Great Pit of Carkoon when a blind Han Solo accidentally set off his jet pack. In the Legends series The Bounty Hunter Wars, Boba blasts his way out of the Sarlacc Pit using a thermal detonator. Dengar finds him amongst the wreckage of Jabba’s barge and they embark on an adventure as Boba recovers. However, when the series and all subsequent books mentioning the bounty hunter were declared not canon, Boba Fett was technically dead again. The Book of Boba Fett fixed the problem. Boba now burns his way free, before digging to the surface.
There are a few more that did not make the cut. For example, the Rose/Finn mutual near-death scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi was left out due to the fact it is so universally hated, and Anakin Skywalker’s resurrection wasn’t exactly a surprise. Are there any more that you think should be on this list? There are bound to be more near-death experiences in the new Ahsoka series since Star Wars cannot seem to make it through a project without at least one!
