Was That Bryan Cranston In That Episode Of 'Andor'?
The latest episode of Star Wars: Andor felt like a finale. The Rebels launched their heist while The Dhani completed their pilgrimage to see the Eye. The story was full of twists and turns but, for some, the biggest twist came from who played the Dhani leader who guided a decreasing population of pilgrims to the site of the Eye.
The actor bore a striking resemblance to Bryan Cranston from the Breaking Bad series. This caused quite a reaction on Twitter and Reddit where some were convinced that Cranston made an accredited appearance. One tweet showed a side-by-side comparison of the Dhani leader and the Breaking Bad star. It turns out that Cranston was not in the Andor episode.
The role of the Dhani leader was played by David Hayman, a Scottish actor in his seventies. Previously, Hayman has played roles in the movies Fisherman’s Friends, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas, Blinded By The Light, and Macbeth. He also starred in the TV shows Top Boy, Bang, and Taboo.
The actor’s role was meant to be top secret. Hayman and a crew of 500 filmmakers headed to the Scottish resort town of Oban, but the actor was immediately recognized on set. People were approaching Hayman to ask if he was there to record his Wonders of Scotland program or if his presence had something to do with Star Wars. Hayman claimed, “Everyone knew what was happening. It was hilarious.” Apparently, Hayman’s role in the Star Wars universe was too big a secret for the galaxy to hold.
With the Dhani religious festival complete, it seems unlikely that the Bryan Cranston look-alike will return to the world of Andor, but there may still be a few undiscovered secrets waiting in the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Viewers can catch new episodes of Star Wars: Andor every Wednesday on Disney+.
