'The Acolyte' Episode 7, "Choice", Spoiler-Free Review
The penultimate episode of The Acolyte is finally here. The episode “Choice” was another flashback, giving us the Jedi perspective of what happened on Brendok. We know how it ends, but let's say that some questionable choices were made.
We are taken back to Brendok, sixteen years earlier. Here, Masters Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Padawan Torbin are trying to find a vergence. To find this, however, they have to do some science, which Torbin finds pretty boring. Eventually, they split up to cover more ground, and Sol stumbles across the twins in the forest. He ultimately follows them back to the fortress, and later reports his findings to Indara. Here we see what we saw in the other episode, the Jedi confronting the Coven. It doesn’t go terribly, except for Torbin, who gets corrupted by Mother Aniseya. We see the girls get tested, and after, Indara reports back to the council. They come back with their decision, and it's not the one Sol wanted. Sol is letting his attachment to Osha get the better of him, which influences the choices he makes in this episode. The Jedi find some information about the twins after their blood is tested. Some of this information is very similar to what we find out about Anakin Skywalker. Some of the information found out, are great parallels to Anakin’s early days. This leads Torbin, who has been acting suspiciously after getting possessed, to go to the fortress to get the girls. Sol goes after him and chaos ensues. There’s fighting between the Jedi and witches, and also between Jedi. It’s quite exciting to watch, considering the circumstances.

The lightsaber fights in Star Wars are always exciting and this episode was no different. The choreography in this show has been some of the best we’ve seen recently. It is so fluid and entertaining to watch. There's a moment, where a certain Jedi, who isn’t himself, jumps and spins above a lightsaber trying to attack him. Another one then jumps at the Jedi to attack. The entire sequence is one of the coolest fights I have seen recently in Star Wars.
Star Wars isn’t all about lightsaber battles. It really shines with its stories and messages. We saw this in Andor. The Acolyte is not on the same level as Andor, but its story is still great. This episode was very plot-heavy, and we got to learn more about these Jedi. This episode was an example of Star Wars at its best. It was extremely well done, and Lee Jung-Jae is incredible as Master Sol. I know I have said it before, but he learned English for the role and is doing an amazing job. Even after the choices he made, he is still one of the best characters in this show and it will be interesting to see what his fate will be in the finale.
The one thing this show suffers from is short episodes. If Disney wants to give us eight episodes, then each one should be at least 45 minutes. Some of these episodes were too short, which caused the pacing to be off. I have loved the flashback episodes we have gotten, this was the second to last episode, and there is still so much to wrap up. I have no idea how they will finish everything for the finale, but I guess we just have to wait and see and hope that it will all come together in the end.
