WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE BAD BATCH SEASON 2

The Bad Batch wrapped up its second season with two explosive episodes that left fans shocked and dismayed. Last week, Clone Force 99 learned that their former ally and brother Crosshair have been taken prisoner by the mysterious Doctor Hemlock. Despite the numerous complications he had caused in the past, the group decides to rescue him despite Hunter’s initial misgiving. Several plot lines come together, culminating in a cliffhanger ending that is sure to excite, frustrate, and bring back fans when Season three is announced.

Omega and her brothers learn that Doctor Hemlock will be attending a high-level meeting at Tarkin’s compound. They plan to plant a tracking beacon on his ship that will hopefully lead them to his hidden base and Crosshair. The plan goes awry when Saw Gerrera shows up on his own mission and complicates everything. All hell breaks loose. The homing beacon on Hemlock’s ship is destroyed when Gerrera sets off the explosives he has planted in the building (failing to take out Imperial leadership in the process).

The resulting explosion disables the train that the clones are relying on for escape. The situation turns deadly when stormtroopers arrive from multiple angles, pinning the group down on the transport. Tech jumps out to repair the damage as time runs out. With his entire team suspended high above the ground seconds from death, Tech makes the ultimate sacrifice and lets himself fall so his team can survive. The reality of the situation breaks the group emotionally as they limp off-world and regroup on Ord Mantell. From there the situation worsens as their former employer and “friend” Cid betrays them to the Empire. The group manages to escape with the help of Echo, but Omega is taken by Hemlock.

The season finale showed that even though The Mandalorian is moving full speed ahead, fans cannot take its animated counterpart for granted. The episodes were beautifully paced and elevated by the use of sound and imagery, especially after Tech’s sacrifice. Filoni and his team understand how to use animation to its full potential and they flexed their muscles for the finale. This season may have been plagued with cries of filler but every episode has built the story that was fleshed out today. Much like The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch has filled in the missing pieces left by the movies. Hopefully, the cloning research storyline will lay the groundwork that will eventually lead to the sequel trilogy, Snoke, and the infamous “Somehow Palpatine returned.”

The Bad Batch Season 2 left many unanswered questions. Rex was conveniently on another mission, and we learned that Hemlock’s assistant is another female clone of Jango Fett (similar to Omega). No one has heard from Commander Cody ever since he defected. Fans will just have to wait for Season 3.
