'Ahsoka' Episode 7 Review

Ahsoka Tano

Last week, Ahsoka finally gave us the long-awaited Thrawn reveal. That wasn't the only big reveal, however, as we also got to see the reveal of Ezra Bridger. This week's episode didn’t have the wild cameos like previous episodes, but bounced around and continued the stories of the various characters that make this show.

First, we see Hera who is standing before the council of the New Republic. She has been court marshaled, after disobeying direct orders from them. We get to see Chancellor Mon Mothma once again, as the council leader. It’s wonderful to see her embrace the role of Chancellor in the New Republic. Her character is quite different from the senator sneakily working with the rebellion in Andor. The events of Mandalore, and Moff Gideon are mentioned, helping us place where Ahsoka is on the Star Wars timeline. During Hera’s interrogation, we get a surprising cameo from a very special droid, C-3PO, who is here on behalf of Leia Organa. Threepio comes in with information that Leia authorized Hera’s mission, and so for the moment, Hera is still a General. Mon Mothma however, suspects that Leia did not authorize the mission, and inquires about how seriously they should take Thrawn’s return. The New Republic is going to regret not believing Hera when Thrawn does eventually return.

Anakin Skywalker makes a quick appearance, in the form of a training video he made for Ahsoka. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see Hayden Christensen as Anakin. She uses it when she is practicing on her ship. Ahsoka and Huyang successfully make it to Peridia, after dodging Thrawn’s minefield. They fight off some enemy ships, until Ahsoka jumps out, and confronts Baylan, who is a bit surprised at her return. The two fight, but you can tell that Ahsoka has improved since their last fight. Her time in the World Between Worlds and being with Anakin again helped refresh her skills. When we see Sabine and Erzra, they are traveling with the snail creatures. We don’t realize how much Ezra has actually missed until Sabine gives him a rundown of everything that has happened since he went missing. Eventually, Ahsoka finds Sabine and Ezra, who had just been in a fight. Ezra has always been a cool character, but his using just the force during their fight made him even cooler. His time on Peridia has served him well, as he is now extremely strong in the force. He and Ahsoka have their long-awaited reunion, and he is excited to go home.

Thrawn has always been a great villain. He was able to understand the members of the Ghost crew, by learning about their past, hobbies, and who they are. Understanding his opponents is one of the reasons why he has been so successful. He has learned about Ahsoka and knows that Anakin Skywalker was her master. Morgan doubts his plan, but Thrawn, who is always one step ahead, assures her that Ahsoka let something very important get away from her, time, which is exactly what Thrawn needed.

This episode didn’t have the wild cameos but gave us some cool fight sequences. The native fighters on Peridia, whom Thrawn used to his advantage, remind me a lot of the Tuskens on Tatooine. The combat was fun to watch, and the snail creatures even joined in to defend themselves. While this was a bit slower of an episode, it sets us up for an exciting finale. Thrawn’s plan to return is almost complete, and it will be interesting to see if Ahsoka and the others will be able to stop him in time. Hopefully, they will all get out of Peridia, and Ezra can finally reunite with Hera, and meet Jacen. Whatever happens in the finale, I have a feeling that it’s going to be a good one.

Rating: 9/10
