'Yellowstone' Star Kevin Costner Not Returning To Hit Show After Season Five
According to sources close to the series, Yellowstone, currently airing on Paramount Plus, actor Kevin Costner is not expected to return to the series after its fifth season, which is currently being filmed. Kevin Costner, best known for hit films such as Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves, JFK, and The Bodyguard, is rumored to be leaving the series after some reported “drama” between Costner and series co-creator, Taylor Sheridan, over Costner’s filming commitments to the remaining episodes of the fifth season.
Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, strongly disputed allegations about Costner’s commitment to the filming schedule.
"The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie. It's ridiculous -- and anyone suggesting it shouldn't be believed for one second," the lawyer said. He added, "As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”

Concerns about the series have been heightened by the lack of public updates about when the cast and crew will return to Montana to finish shooting the remaining episodes. Sheridan and the cast were also noticeably absent at a recent panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles. There has been some discussion by Puck News reporter, Matthew Belloni, that the showrunners have yet to determine whether Costner will be returning to finish the show or whether his character will be written out and that, when that determination is made, work will resume on the series.
"Yellowstone is really in limbo right now until they can figure out whether Costner is coming back or, more likely, whether he's going to be written out of the show," Belloni explained. "Once that determination is made, they can finish writing the second half of this season, shoot it, and it will likely air in the fall."
Reports of Costner leaving the series also come on the heels of news that Costner’s wife of eighteen years, Christine Costner, recently filed for divorce. However, regardless of the eventual outcome of the current dispute over the series, plans to spin off Yellowstone into another series, this one featuring another popular Hollywood film actor, Matthew McConaughey, are officially moving forward, according to Paramount boss, Chris McCarthy. Additionally, Sheridan currently has many more projects lined up with McCarthy.
